Daniel Mullins is a freakin beast. incorpurating failed games into the massive treasure hunt is awsome.
Bro this just a theory ........a game theory
yo9u think he failed it on purpose?? wouldn't doubt it with how monotonous the trailer is
@Ketamime Same
@Trap Card well... I don't know how Daniel Mullins looks
Why did I read this as Daniel Mullins is freaking hot 😅
I hope markiplier sees this, he really wanted there to be a secret ending.
@Doomsayer34 what is that even supposed to mean
@Gift Box i feel you just googled markiplier to flex that the internet knows his name
@markiplier
This isn't a secret ending; it's an ARG puzzle.
Mark Fischbach IS involved in Game Theory in some way. He's been in a couple of GT streams, so I doubt he WON'T see this video.
I don't think this is called “JUST A THEORY” anymore, you solved it! It's the real deal!
@SgtSupaman It's like botted.
@SgtSupaman oh dang, even I fell for it. That username doesn't seem like all the other bot account usernames that I've seen so far.
But their channel banner is definitely indicative of them being a bot.
I don't think he solved it, there's one question. Who's Amanda, and why did Sado's face cover hers for a frame. It is also glitchy when amanda shows on screen.
Merge mansion has more lore to give him
This is one of the craziest ARGs I've ever seen. The fact that he hid clues in games from several years ago is insane.
I think he instead used old things in the game As clues rather than the other way around
The game deliberately says that there is a “devil” deep in the old data
i've read that there are clues that the ceo of gamefuna is satan from pony island
Hob is another name for the devil "old hob" and you get things like Hobbs end. Maybe more stuff to do with Kaycee than we know.
I feel like the “devil” the game is referring to is some sort of cosmic horror or something. I really get the feeling that the old data has something to do with eldritch entities
Not that unlikely, given that it may or may not be connected to pony island, a game made by the devil himself. Of course, the devil could also be just a metaphor, since the merchant was explaining their clues through a tarot deck
daniel mullins is actually insane. the amount of effort put into this ARG is actually freaking crazy.
@Kaworu Nagisa pony island was a popular game though
@The Unidentified Changeling what if matpat made codycross 🤭😀 it's a puzzle 🧩 game☝️
As much as I hate the story; I'll give you that.
@Kaworu Nagisa id like to see you make something better
13:47 During one of the bonelord secrets you see a skeleton with karnoffel cards in it's pocket, now it makes sense! Also I can't believe there was no mention of the trader's stories about the old data in act 3; she mentions it was created by the devil, though whether that's meant literally is still open for interpretation I guess.
I mean there is the devil in Pony Island... What if it's literally that being?
I’d like to know how Sado from the Hex fits into this story. She’s apparently escaped into the real world. What’s her deal?
My thoughts are Sado is a more advanced Daemon.exe (from Pony island) and the entirety of the Hex was a con on both the Hex characters and the player to get her into the real world.
Her face appears for a single frame on the face of the gamefuna assassin during the ending, maybe she’s controlling them? And/or wants her hands on the old data
@Grayson what if sado is the assassin
She appears over the gamefuna assassins face for a frame too
After a while of thinking I finally understand why hearing matpat say "third and final" over and over again sounded so familiar, it sounded like he was retelling the FNAF lore 😂
Something is off. You’ve seeming skipped over the thing that started ALL OF THIS. Remember how Luke finds the disk? Through a set of coordinates in a trading card pack. Who put that there? Who left this vital link to the old data in a consumer product? Answer me, Matpat!
If we’re gonna theorize, perhaps it was to keep track of where she buried it for herself just in case? Although it is interesting how the physical card game ties in to the overall narrative.
We know Luke got the cards from Kaycee's mom(?). What I don't understand is why she left coordinates to it in the first place if she went to the trouble of burying it deep in the woods somewhere.
Pay attention.
he said in THIS video that its most likely Kaycee who put the disk there...
The fact that Daniel Mullins, the creator, actually put floppy disks in Vancouver and used all of his old games as something to boost up the lore is freaking amazing , he really put all his effort into the lore.
@RyeBreadRellon its ok too be in denial
His whole mullussy, if you will
That's the most amazing part of this arg
Putting effort into the lore, huh. Reminds me of a certain someone
This is one of the craziest ARGs I've ever seen. The fact that he hid clues in games from several years ago is insane.
I can’t believe how much work must have been put into this game. It is crazy how Daniel Mullins succeeded to create such a wonderful game! I give my most sincere respect. To mullins and to everyone who succeeded to find out all of Inscryption’s secrets.
the amount of effort in this theory and what the devs did with this game are just breathtaking; awesome work 🌟
This Theory series brought me so much joy, thank you so much for doing all that work!
This game, in my opinion, has broken the standard of gaming in a way I haven't seen since Undertale. There's so many layers and hidden bits with so much care and precision put into them all to tell a (really cool) story and yet still stay a really fun game to just play casually. Bravo, Daniel, bravo.
@Kaworu Nagisa undertale sucks
@Kaworu Nagisa well yes but it's still the best since undertale
This is not comparable to Undertale. Undertale is accessible. This convoluted string of events is not accessible.
All of what was done was just failed and niche games that snowballed on the predecessors until eventually one reached mainstream attention, just so the dev can come out and go "aha, look how crazy and wacky I am"
Yeah I agree so much with this
Something that makes it even more special to me is that all in all, this could very well be a real thing tjat could have taken place during the cold war.
"The FINAL puzzles, and the ultimate SOLUTION"
dodged a bullet there, Mat, _unlike the other ones_
Being Polish myself hearing someone confusing Polish with Russian kind of hurts ngl XD
Also, polish was just below russian, so I hope for editing error, not getting languages wrong
Yeah, but that quote about old lady is funny anyway XD
This game is an absolute masterpiece, I did NOT expect this game to be this incredibly awesome.
You can really feel the love and the passion in this game. I hope more games like this one come out wherein the community and the creator have such a harmonius relationship.
It was a blast to be a part of the ARG and get one of the disks and see my tiny twitch channel explode with eager ARG fans. Never had a highlight clip with so many views. Great recap. Looking forward to more from Dan.
@Witsutart0911 Nope! Very much alive. Gamefuda never got me.
I though that Matpat said that you died.
..........
Lol man's is the real deal
Thought it was a fake for clout but no
Joined in *2011*
incredibly impressed with the work you all did and the conclusion was more than satisfying. very well done
This is an absolute masterpiece of easter egg after easter egg; even incorporating real life. One devoted developer and cannot applaud him enough for that. Brilliant game and brilliant secrets
I love deep games like these!! Soo many clues and secrets!!
Thank you so much for your awesome videos, that explain everything, I reaaaaly love this ^^
And wow, what an Mastermind Daniel Mullins is, awesome games and a huuuuge mystery behind the surface. Awesome
This has to one of the most satisfying real-world ARG’s I’ve ever seen, it seems like every puzzle just hit its mark and every secret rewarded the faithful theorist who decides to look in the dusty corners of Daniel Mullins’ games
@RomPom yeah
@David G Wilbur Soot ARG I think.
@Deadman6 which was that?
esclips.com/video/3k94kHqSzSU/vídeo.html vdd
When I learned all this lore and my life's was just about to become an action story, Mat says"its just a theory, a game theory" it just pulled down my sails.
thanks for doing all this hard work and creating a video for every one to enjoy the Easter egg hunt!
This ARG is so insane! All the clues laid out over several years in digital and the physical world!?! I can't even wrap my head around planning something like this
Yoo! This game and its ARG is just insane! The amount of dedication and preparation this game had just blows my mind! The way these puzzles were solved just gives you that dose of serotonin lmao
I absolutely love the fact that even with a team of literally award-winning editors, MatPat is still using the 360p png of himself as the host in his videos
@Anoushka in which video?
Got the whole bot sqaud
@qwertt14 the streamy awards
Literally award-winning.
i really hope the rest of the scribes get endless mode mods (official or otherwise) i would love to play against all of them for hours. Maybe even an expansion to act 2? i just want to see more inscryption
Yeah game play wise act 2 looked like it had so much but it just wasn't long enough to explore it all
This stuff alone should make Inscryption the best indie game ever made. The level of planning that went into all of this is unreal
10:30
imagine if these guys didn't say anything about the disc they recieved and the arg was ruined
This reminds me of my days as a gravity falls fan turned up to 11, the detail and commitment to this game and the hidden lore is amazing
This ARG is so insane! All the clues laid out over several years in digital and the physical world!?! I can't even wrap my head around planning something like this
@Jake fnaf is not even close to being on this level, and was not even planned out NEARLY as much as it was theorized about then those theories were implemented into the game.
Is the strat not to just put random codes in your old games (assuming he never went back and changed any of his old games), like just spam hidden unlocks in your games and then when you feel like unleashing go back and include them in a newer game. To be fair, if this is what happened there are probably random codes in some of his other games that werent even explored in inscryption lol.
Yea this is crazy
i bought pony island years ago and never knew how deep this went
Honestly.. this is the biggest ARG I've ever seen! And I've been carefully following MatPat's fnaf vids.. there's a lot of BS to be seen!
You know, I love what game theory is now. Great entertainment and wonderful food for thought. But i do gotta say i miss the old intro lol
can we all just take a moment to appreciate how hard matpat and co works to upload these?
Awesome theory episodes! I didn't know that inscription was such a deep game!
Thank you for putting this out here, I am bad at ARG's so finding all this is just amazing
This game's story is honestly really well written and yet i still feel like it and games like it are very underrated
@SoundRogue lol you just sound like you don't have a valid point but hating the game for no reason
@SoundRogue What the hell do you mean the 2nd boss is the strongest, the big bad? There is no big bad in the game.
Also, what is inconsistent about the wizard being able to glimpse into the future, but not being able to see it completely? That is a pretty common trope about future divination.
We still don’t know everything about the lore though
@Agent Milton it's certainly appealing as more than just a card game, but I'd never expect every 8 year old and their mum to know about it like Fortnite or cod.
Just wanted to say love the channel, been watching for years and hopefully for many years to come!
This is awesome! Thank you so much, I love these kinds of videos on your channel ^__^
The fact that he's planning this for so long is just 👏👏
Thanks for spelling this out for us MatPat! Wow, what a wild ride. Haven't been this invested in lore since FNaF and (more recently) Genshin Impact.
Now I realize why the steam bundle with all his games is called “beginners deck”
@Prashant Yerpude hey FNAF can't always be on top
That's great
The level of planning and layering in order to make stuff like this is both crazy and inspiring. I wonder how long it took to put it all together and if it was all mapped out before he ever started coding or if it was constantly being developed.
MAAAAANNNN!!! WHAT A DELIGHTFUL MYSTERY STORY!!! It's just genius! I can't wait for the mode to come out and reveal some more. I spent literaly a WHOLE DAY! Just watching videos about this game. It's 9pm here in Brazil right now and I'm watching videos since 7am. I'll subscribe just to see what more is yet to be revealed about this genius work of art!! I'm a fan of Daniel Mullins now!
That was a very exciting ending to a wild adventure!
If more comes out I would love a part 4!
I'm really glad I watched this. I like the added ending that P03 succeeded in releasing the game online. Which means all the Scribes are still alive. Also P03 didn't make himself the main character like he said he would.
11:13 - I am from Poland and this moment is hilarious. The little mistake, the meaning of the sentence and MatPat's face photoshopped - it's just perfect XD
This is absolutely incredible, Mr Mullins is a legend in the making 😊
Dan, the editing on the heads is fantastic as always!
Man we love the unique games that actually entail the destruction of the world, one in a million I love it
@SoundRogue make an hour long detailed review of the game maybe then ill care :)
@Zach Blair can't handle my criticism of the game?
@SoundRogue i wasnt even trying to defend the game because i just dont care. whats annoying is someone coming out of nowhere and being negative under a comment thats not even trying to be critical of the game
also you call two plotholes in a game with so many things put into both making the actual game and making the side ARG "bad writing" as if it ruins the story the game was trying to tell and if it genuinely ruins the rest of the game for you then thats just genuinely sad. like i said, pull out that stick and appreciate how much effort was put into making a full game and a working ARG tying so many other games together
Technically speaking this game does not end up with the destruction of the world, but true
Reject mainstream, return to indie
I never heard of this game and I’ll prolly never play it but I just LOVE how u explain things
Hey MatPat, I noticed that in many of your theory videos, you try to prove that the feats the characters perform would render them incapacitated at best. So here is a new challenge. Take a video game character who, according to real-world physics, should be shattering every bone and calculate exactly how strong their body has to be to survive.
My best friend and I played this together just knowing there was something deeper. Thanks for going over this and revealing the community discoveries, this is a much more satisfying ending than what we previously thought.
This ARG is absolutely insane needs more attention
10:30 That's... actually hillarious, Dr. Fire Esq. was Markiplier's custom card when he played the third chapter of Inscryption. It's pretty cool how these things just kinda slot into place huh?
Manlybadasshero's might have been about the best possible.
Ok
@SaviourV both are required to be read in glory!
And I read both...in glory!
@creepy furrguy
Which name? "Dr. Fire Esq" or "The Flying Uyaruli"? 😆😆😆
So I am not the only one
I read that name with full of excitement and glory
Daniel Mullins actually scares me, I can barely decide what I’m doing an hour from now..to have the mind to incorporate these clues into years old games is wonderfully brilliant! Hope there’s more to come from Mat on these games theories.
Awesome job MatPat!
OMFG, I dream of making a game with lore THIS deep
After a while of thinking I finally understand why hearing matpat say "third and final" over and over again sounded so familiar, it sounded like he was retelling the FNAF lore 😂
I think we all have to agree, Daniel Mullin is the most insanely creative lore creator to date.
@KefkeWren Well to defend MatPat here, he was more focused on the OLD_DATA and less focused on the Scrybes and the the games.
then there's Scott Cawthon
Before scott cawthon
@MoonDrip Yeah it sucks
I love this series!
when the game is amazing and fun but keeps getting more cooler the more you learn about it!!
I love it! I can’t wait to see what Kaycee’s mod has in store! :)
I love that games now have deep lore that just given to u but is hidden and once found reveal an entire new story it makes you feel more inversed in this world the game is trying to create
What still baffles me is that Pony island and inscryption overall received far more coverage by popular youtubers than The Hex did, even if (as Matpat mentioned here) The hex has his own secrets, mysteries and darker twists, that may even help contextualize GameFuna some more. Daniel Mullins played a very long game of worldbuilding, it's really impressive to see it all unravelled.
@Marshbouy I actually played The Hex last because I enjoyed the other two so much, and honestly it might be my favorite one of the three.
The Hex is an amazing game, it is a major shame to see it be so discarded
11:13 This quote made me laugh so much, thanks MatPat
I've never heard anyone in Poland say that tho lol
This is absolutely blowing my mind how deep inscryptions easter eggs goes... Daniel was piecing all of this together in 2016 with his first game????????
Don't get me wrong, the videos you make are great, but I'd love to see a theory on Terraria. There is official lore that was released on the 8th anniversary of the game and a ton of lore and data in the huge in-game bestiary. Maybe something to do with the mentions of "the great Cthulu war" or something to do with how the bosses make up Cthulu.
"The FINAL puzzles, and the ultimate SOLUTION" dodged a bullet there, Mat, unlike the other ones
A slight correction: the last text was not Polish, it was actually Russian
I scrolled way too far to find this comment
ESclips is corrupted these days
yikes you just got all the bots huh :(
ahh thankyou comrade
@John Jo IP puller
An ARG this intricate is kinda crazy. It reminds me of I love bees
The amount of work on all of this is completely insane
I don't think this is called “JUST A THEORY” anymore, you solved it! It's the real deal!
Love the videos and all the theories. I'd really like you're take on Darkwood.
Food for thought, I would just like to remind everyone that the game were playing is not actually inscryption. Inscryption was deleted, we saw it happen. What we are playing is a gamified version of Luke Carder’s footage, which is likely what P03 actually sent into the internet after everything else was erased. It was the only piece of inscryption that survived because it wasn’t part of the official game.
@Nightingale's_tail Absolutely. Because he couldn't salvage the game, my interpretation is that he took the next best thing: Footage from the game where he ENDS UP in control, even if only for a little while. And if the Old_Data allows this footage to be fully made sentient, like with the game?
Then that means that P03 will get another chance to "win".
@Weber Very well, I'm just playing with the idea that something went wrong (because he was surprised attacked by Leshy in the end (meaning he is not all-seeing)) because it seemed to me that in this game he is not in control(his goal) hence the idea this is all that PO3 could gather after Luke tried to delete/destroy the game
@Nightingale's_tail No. That was it. He wanted to overcome the other Scrybes, and then, send out a version of Inscryption where he is in control. . . That is his goal. That's why he wanted to send out Inscryption. It was the final nail in the coffin, so to speak.
That was ALWAYS his plan for sending out the game. He explains his plan VERY succinctly.
@Weber I appreciate the point you make about PO3 still being recognizable as the stoat; however do we actually know his goal? Originally it was to overcome the other scribes but after that what was he doing?
@Neal Morse No. I fully understand what YOU are talking about. However, I'm pointing out what makes sense, given the context of what we see, and what implications that has.
The Stoat thing makes SO LITTLE SENSE, if you try to say it's so "other don't know" ... what others? Who else would know about P03? No one. He was a character made for a game that was never released.
How about "maybe it's so he can trick them into spreading the old data more" ?
Oh, right. Because that was TOTALLY what P03 was after: spreading the Old_Data. Not what he actually states is his goal is. No no. Instead, he wants to spread the Old_Data... And that's only possible... if he pretends to be a Stoat?
Like... you see these weird leaps in logic?
Yet, let's look at what we DO know: we watch the game being deleted., before our eyes, before Luke Carder dies. The only thing left, at the end, is the Old_Data, just moments before Luke removes the floppy, smashes it with a hammer, and gets shot in the head.
It make SO LITTLE SENSE for the game to show us the game being deleted, only to say "sike! it actually wasn't deleted! Every thing exists online now!" when that just... doesn't make sense, from a narrative perspective.
Meanwhile, the fact that Luke Carder is a real channel that exists, made for this ARG, shows that Luke is supposed to exist in OUR world.
This is so insane. He planned it on failed games, old versions, etc. I even saw beneath the surface as a normal game for a video, so I am so baffled how crazy it is.DF posted an old video nine months ago not even knowing it.
That ending gave me chills...
Like actually, he did it.
This is so sick! I wish I was part of this!
Its really fascinating watching the many deep layers that have to be passed to solve the mystery incorporating video games and their mechanics with youtube content and real life stuff to solve this mystery its something very fresh and entertaining ngl..
I’m genuinely scared by the level of commitment that was put into building up and establishing this ARG. Like, the guy actually went to Vancouver and buried a physical game disk as part of his game’s mystery.
Dedication
alex hirsch basically did the same with the bill cypher statue that the fans found by using clues from gravity falls
@Zoiker Wait, someone buried bananas?
It's nice and all but i remember some golden bananas buried across the world for another game, so, it's not like it's something mind blowing
I'm sorry, but you've been plagued with bots
This was such a ride and I loved every second
This ARG is…incredible…wow
Hey Matpat, great video you have here. You and your team have seriously outdone yourselves, as always. The quality always seems to amaze me when it comes to the editing and cohesion, not even including the actual content (theories) themselves -- absolutely wild!
Considering this, I'm wondering whether or not you and your team have been offered a deal by Netflix?
It seems perfect for an episodic, documentary-style Netflix show that covers the uncanny and interesting ends of gaming (among other topics such as food, film, etc.) out there, and would most likely be highly profitable for you and the rest of your team to be casted by Netflix themselves. The quality of your videos is comparable to the likes of Horrible Histories (in terms of technological and editing quality) and others of a similar nature, so it's not exactly a stretch.
It's a thought I've had for a while, and would really like some sort of reception on the topic in the future in same way, shape or form. Although, I doubt this comment would be individually noticed amongst the thousands of others amassed.
Again, great video as always. You really represent the best parts of ESclips.
A great video just like always!
Daniel Mullins honestly to me seems like he’s literally playing 5 dimensional chess with his games lore considering all of these circumstances had to have happened for this games lore to even be able remotely considered complete
@Tom Sky it seems likely to me that the website would have remained available until at least 3 individuals ordered the discs. yes, we missed it... but the cutoff only seems arbitrary from this future point.
@Weber I was mainly referring to the 3 secret disc final cipher considering the conversation would be incomplete if nobody ordered those 3 disks and we’d most likely never get to learn the full context behind the other dialogue pieces without them.
Yes and no... Depending on where the games are hosted, it's entirely possible that he's able to make updates and "patches" to the games to put in secret codes Alternatively, he can have been hiding clues in his games for years, with most of them being unrelated ciphers, so that he can plug them in as he sees fit. After all, the other games only contain codes, not content.
This game goes so deep with its ARG it’s crazy
Probably the most complicated multiverse stories ever made, but it looks fun to see the community are gathering together to solve this
Best breakdown of the lore I have witnessed
Wow. The guy who made all this was in deep with the layers of this one theory. Took forever to find too.
Man, I’m kinda disappointed that Inscryption didn’t win best Indie game of the year now. It’s so imaginative.
@Hanwenheng Liu Couldn't the same be said about any game though? That alone would be a poor reason for this game not to be rewarded for it's creative storytelling, unique gameplay, and overall polish.
@FraSina before your eyes by skybound games
Because it's not fun to everyone who plays it
game awards are popularity contests anyway
Probably the most complicated multiverse stories ever made, but it looks fun to see the community are gathering together to solve this
i cant imagine how happy the creator of this game making it impossible for a normal person to solve
Thanks for finishing the story Matt!
Now we wait 7 more years to see how his next game hid secrets within this one.
I love how everyone hated P03/the Stoat, but he's the only reason they even get to play this glorious game
@Cinta Pisani hey can you not
I love po3 he is my favourite lol
Or is it lore wise?
@Tom Riddle me too
